Editing services
My experience includes: proofreading young-adult fiction manuscripts at Ford Street Publishing; editing articles, reviews, and scholarly dissertations; and I served as a Print Editor for Wordly Magazine and a Guest Editor for The University of Newcastle’s postgrad journal SWAMP.
What’s on offer?
I work with you to ensure your writing is polished and refined. In accordance with Australian industry standards, I follow the guidelines outlined in the Australian Government Style Manual and the appropriate style sheet of your requested publication or choosing. Whether you have a children’s book you need proofread, someone to cross check your Master’s dissertation, or a script that requires extensive coverage notes, I look forward to working together to elevate your storytelling.
Manuscript Assessments
Have you completed a manuscript or screenplay and need someone to give you honest feedback? I’ll read your work and provide you with two full pages of notes that focus on characterisation, plot, syntax, and tone. I will also inform you whether this manuscript would receive a green light (ready for publication), amber (needs work), or red (needs a lot of work and would not recommend for publishing).
Copyediting
Copyediting consists of checking for and correcting errors in grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation as well as checking for continuity errors and factually incorrect statements. If you have a piece of writing that you think would benefit from a strict copyedit, contact me today and I’ll provide you with a tailored quote.
Structural Editing
Structural editing is the first step to perfecting your work. This is a collaborative process where I communicate with you, the author, through track changes on Word (and via email) to distinguish any substantial edits that need to be made. This type of editing is more involved and will look at the overall tone and style of your work, structural arrangement, language choice, flow of content, character development, and consistent voice.
Proofreading
Proofreading is a final sweep of your work to ensure that punctuation and grammar are perfect for publication. Often considered the final stage of the editing process, in this phase I’m on the lookout for any spelling errors you may have missed or misused (such as everyone’s favourite ‘your and you’re’).
